What You Need to Know Today

Chinese imports currently account for up to 97% of bikes purchased in the United States. Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer wants to change that dynamic with a new bill aimed at rejuvenating domestic production. The proposed law would suspend tariffs on components like brakes and electric motors for 10 years to incentivize domestic assembly, create a transferrable e-bike production tax credit for bikes manufactured in the U.S., and provide low-interest loans for e-bike manufacturers to purchase equipment.

It’s no surprise that Tesla tops the charts of the best-selling EVs, but what’s more surprising is that the 3rd hottest-selling EV in the U.S. is really a Lectric XP 3.0 e-bike.

Whizz, a New York subscription service that offers delivery workers access to e-bikes, has raised $12M for expansion to other cities, such as Boston, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. The fresh funds will also enable the startup to start producing e-mopeds.
