What defines an electric bicycle from a motorcycle?
An electric bicycle, or eBike, is defined by the presence of pedal-assist or throttle-based acceleration, while a Motorcycle relies solely on the motor for propulsion. This means that an eBike requires the rider to pedal in order to activate the motor and gain additional power, whereas a Motorcycle operates solely on motor power. Additionally, ebikes have a lower maximum speed compared to motorcycles, typically capped at 20-28 mph, depending on the LOCAL regulations. The usage of an electric motor in an eBike is intended to provide assistance to the rider, rather than replace the need for pedaling, distinguishing it from a Motorcycle.
