What is a bike box?
A bike box, also known as a bicycle box or bike container, is a special area designated for cyclists at intersections. It is typically a painted box on the road, often colored green, that is located in front of vehicle lanes and behind pedestrian crosswalks. Bike boxes are designed to provide a safe and designated space for cyclists to wait at intersections, allowing them to be more visible to drivers and giving them a head start when the traffic Light turns green. This helps to improve safety for cyclists and reduce the likelihood of collisions with vehicles. Bike boxes are commonly found in cities with a strong emphasis on promoting cycling and improving cyclist infrastructure.
