What is a sharrow lane?

A sharrow lane, short for shared lane marking, is a road marking that is used to indicate that a lane should be shared by both cyclists and motor vehicles. It typically consists of a series of chevron arrows with the image of a bicycle in the middle. This marking encourages cyclists to position themselves in the center of the lane, while also indicating to motorists that they should expect to see cyclists using the lane. Sharrows are commonly used in areas where it is not feasible or practical to have separate bike lanes, but still want to promote cyclist safety and awareness on the road.
