7 Reasons to Buy the Vanmoof S5

  • Upgraded torque sensors enable smart shifting. The e-bike senses how you ride and shifts through the gears at precisely the right moment.
  • Provides a stellar level of security with integrated locks and anti-theft warnings. It also has a network of people who will hunt down your stolen e-bike or replace it if they can't.
  • The VanMoof S5 uses a combination of GPS and LTE-M to track your location.
  • Turbo Boost is especially useful on hills as it provides maximum thrust without pedaling assistance. It instantly boosts speed, which helps with climbing inclines and overtaking other vehicles.
  • The Economy Power mode offers intelligent motor assistance that'll seamlessly match your level of pedaling input and riding style.
  • The VanMoof S5 integrates a brilliant new handlebar interface that reveals key data like speed, battery life, and ride mode via its unique 'LED Halo Rings.'
  • Smaller wheels and lower frame height makes it easy to get on and off the e-bike.

3 Reasons Not to Buy the Vanmoof S5

  • The VanMoof S5 takes six hours and thirty minutes to charge fully. However, an optional 48V/4A speed charger can cut down two hours if you're in a hurry.
  • The model is only available in gray.
  • Pro riders may find the automatic three-speed gearing a bit inconvenient.

It's called S5 because there's so much new. It's not only an s3 with a faster motor or more bright lights. It's a totally re-engineered bike and it shows.

The most notable upgrades are a re-engineered motor that's more powerful and a longer-range battery. I guarantee these will be barely noticeable to most users, as the top speed will still be 15.5mph, and the range was plenty long already.

In my brief test rides with the prototypes, I can confirm that the S5's slightly smaller wheels and lower overall frame height make it noticeably easier to mount than VanMoof's notoriously tall S-series bikes.

The most noticeable changes on this new version are slightly smaller wheels and rather lovely looking LED halo ring interfaces that are integrated into both sides of the handlebars, just inside the grips.
