The state of North Rhine-Westphalia promotes the purchase of cargo bikes with a new brand, a load capacity of at least 70 kg, and extended wheelbase or inseparable means of transport connected to the bike through the Low-Emission Mobility guideline which provides a non-electric cargo bike with €500. The purchase of e-cargo bikes and cargo trailers with electric assist is subsidized by the Federal government with 25 percent of the expenses for acquisition, with a maximum of €2,500 per cargo bike trailer or e-cargo bike.

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports the acquisition (purchase) of cargo bikes and electric cargo bikes with a payload of at least 70 kg with applicants including natural persons working as freelancers, sole traders, public and private legal entities, and partnerships. The funding for non-electric cargo bikes is a flat rate of €500. The funding for electric cargo bikes varies depending on the eligible applicants, but the maximum funding amount is €4,200 with a maximum of five cargo bikes per year. Additionally, the federal government supports the acquisition of e-cargo bikes and cargo trailers with electric drive support for cargo transport with funding up to 25 percent of the expenses for the acquisition and a maximum of €2,500 per e-cargo bike or cargo bike trailer with e-drive for eligible applicants which include private companies, municipal companies, municipalities, corporations, institutions under public law, and incorporated associations and organizations.
