Electric Bike Rebates and Tax Credits in Europe

An adult natural person with proof of domicile in France, or a legal person with proof of establishment in France, can benefit from State aid of up to €2,000 to finance the purchase of a cycle. with or without assisted pedaling, or a cycle designed to allow the transport of people or goods or to meet the needs of people with disabilities, or a folding bicycle, or an electric trailer for cycles, new.

The Dutch government offers tax relief to individuals and businesses for e-cargobike purchases in all regions.

Miming offers a funding application for bicycle accessories and cargo bikes reaching up to €400 per applicant.

There is a subsidy of 500 euros for the purchase of a cargo bike. The subsidy per cargo pedelec amounts to 1,500 euros. Up to five cargo bikes or cargo pedelecs per year are eligible for funding per applicant.

Erlangen subsidies will cover 30% of the cost up to €900

Available subsidies will be equal to 50% of the expenditure incurred (excluding VAT), up to a maximum of 700 euros.

Citizens can receive subsidies for ebikes, cargo bikes, and three wheelers: 4550 incentives; 50% PVP (incl. VAT), up to €500.

Azores residents can qualify for a variety of subsidies based on the type of vehicle and number of recipients ranging from €500 to €4500.

Applicants must fill out a financial incentive form from the Commune d'Epalinges for purchasing electric bikes, batteries for bikes, electric scooters/motorcycles, or a charging station. The form requires the submission of original invoices and proof of payment, and the incentive must be applied for within 3 months of purchase. The form also includes a section for confirming compliance with the fund's regulations and providing personal information.

The Municipality of Castelo Branco has instituted a Program for Support to the Acquisition of Bicycles, for the acquisition of conventional bicycles, electric or not, electrically assisted cargo bicycles, and adapted bicycles, electric or not, for personal use by beneficiaries, in order to promote the use of bicycles as a means of daily transportation in the municipality of Castelo Branco. Interested parties can register via email or in person at the Municipality of Castelo Branco's Single Service Desk.

The "Bike to Work 2021" project by the Emilia-Romagna Region aims to discourage private vehicle use and encourage cycling in specific areas affected by European infringement for PM10 daily limit value exceedance. Grants of up to 100% are available to municipalities with populations of less than 50,000 in the affected areas for eligible interventions, such as investment expenses for bike paths and traffic moderation prioritizing bicycle traffic in compliance with current regulations.

The Sustainable Mobility Funding Program offers subsidies for cargo bikes, cargo and child trailers, S-pedelecs, and electric scooters.

The city of Heidelberg in Germany supports various environmentally-friendly mobility programs including a grant program that supports the installation of private charging stations and public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, as well as alternative propulsion systems and fuels. Since August 1, 2022, the e-taxi promotion compensates taxi companies in Heidelberg for additional operating costs when using electric vehicles (battery-electric or fuel cell vehicles).

The city of Hesse is providing funding for Cargo Bikes. The funds provided in 2022 ran out quickly, however, another round of funding will be available in 2023, and more information regarding funding can be found in the guidelines for funding.

Residents of municipalities within the Grand Paris Seine Ouest Agglomeration Community are eligible to receive a purchase grant of €200, limited to 25% of the purchase price of an electric bike. The subsidy is limited to the purchase of one e-bike per household, and only new e-bikes are eligible. Legal entities, e-bike electrification kits, and electric scooters are excluded from the subsidy program. While the electric bike grant requires several documents to provide, more information can be found on the official website of the community.

The Occitanie Region has an "Eco-mobility voucher" program for the purchase of an electric-assist bicycle. The program has been updated for 2023 and regulations are available for download on their website.

There are multiple bike grants available. The first grant mentioned is a bike rental grant of 5 euros for people spending at least 40 euros on bike rentals at PRO VELO between August 1stand December 31st, 2020. The second grant mentioned is for purchasing a new bike and is applicable to adults domiciled in the entity who have obtained the Soft and Active Mobility Grant and targets the 65+ and daily users. There are two types of grants under this category: a complementary grant to the Provincial grant, available for purchases made between January 1stand December 31st2020, and a complementary grant to the Regional grant, available for purchases made between July 1st, 2020, and December 31st, 2022. Total budget available for the grants is 10,000 euros, and there are 100 first requests in 2021.

Subsidies are available through the Municipal fund for renewable energy and sustainable development in the Municipality of Chavornay. The applicant needs to provide their details, proof of purchase and payment, and information about their bank account for the disbursement of financial assistance. The disbursement of financial assistance is subject to availability of the fund.

Subsidy for the purchase of an electric bicycle is available in the municipality of Jorat-Mézières via a grant application form

The Commune of Ollon provides subsidies for the purchase of electric bicycles from specialized stores located in Canton of VAUD. However, buyers need to confirm the eligibility of the store before purchasing.
