Electric Bike Rebates and Tax Credits

There is a subsidy of 500 euros for the purchase of a cargo bike. The subsidy per cargo pedelec amounts to 1,500 euros. Up to five cargo bikes or cargo pedelecs per year are eligible for funding per applicant.

The city of Heidelberg in Germany supports various environmentally-friendly mobility programs including a grant program that supports the installation of private charging stations and public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, as well as alternative propulsion systems and fuels. Since August 1, 2022, the e-taxi promotion compensates taxi companies in Heidelberg for additional operating costs when using electric vehicles (battery-electric or fuel cell vehicles).

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports the acquisition (purchase) of cargo bikes and electric cargo bikes with a payload of at least 70 kg with applicants including natural persons working as freelancers, sole traders, public and private legal entities, and partnerships. The funding for non-electric cargo bikes is a flat rate of €500. The funding for electric cargo bikes varies depending on the eligible applicants, but the maximum funding amount is €4,200 with a maximum of five cargo bikes per year. Additionally, the federal government supports the acquisition of e-cargo bikes and cargo trailers with electric drive support for cargo transport with funding up to 25 percent of the expenses for the acquisition and a maximum of €2,500 per e-cargo bike or cargo bike trailer with e-drive for eligible applicants which include private companies, municipal companies, municipalities, corporations, institutions under public law, and incorporated associations and organizations.

Bicycle-bound goods transport in industry, commerce, services, and municipalities is eligible for funding under the Federal Funding Guideline "E-Lastenfahrrad-Richtlinie." Private individuals and companies in Thuringia receive a grant for the purchase of cargo bikes with grants of up to 40 percent. Currently, the funds for the Cargobike Invest funding program have run out, and applications are not possible.

The Gemeinde Aschheim is offering a subsidy program for the purchase of new pedelecs, lastenräder, lastenpedelecs, and bicycles to encourage people to avoid using cars for short trips. The program is open to local businesses, organizations, and individuals with a primary residence in Aschheim. The subsidy amount is 20% of the eligible costs, up to a maximum of €200 for a bicycle, €500 for a pedelec, lastenrad, or s-pedelec, and €800 for a lastenpedelec. The program is in effect from August 1, 2022, and applications can be submitted before or after the purchase of the bike. The subsidy is subject to a two-year restriction on resale, and the program is subject to the availability of funds.

The city of Bietigheim-Bissingen is offering a one-time subsidy for the purchase of environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation options, specifically electric-assisted cargo bikes, muscle-powered cargo bikes, and bike trailers. The subsidy is available to households with a minimum load capacity of 40 kg, a minimum wheelbase of 130 cm, and a minimum transport volume of 140 liters for cargo bikes, and a minimum load capacity of 30 kg and a minimum transport volume of 30 liters for trailers. The subsidy is only available to natural persons with a primary residence in Bietigheim-Bissingen, and the maximum subsidy amount is 30% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of €1,000 for electric cargo bikes and €300 for muscle-powered cargo bikes or €100 for trailers. Each household is only eligible for one subsidy.

Residents, registered associations, foundations, cooperatives, public law corporations, small and medium-sized businesses, and self-employed persons with a residence or office in the city of Fürth are eligible to apply for a subsidy of up to 1000 euros for the purchase of cargo bikes. The subsidy can be applied for online under "eService" in the right-hand column. The funding for private cargo bikes is currently exhausted. Companies and businesses must provide a declaration for classification as a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME criteria). Guidelines and application forms are available for both private and commercial cargo bikes.

The city council of Kleeblattstadt has decided to subsidize the purchase of cargo bikes with up to 1000 euros for eligible applicants which include private individuals, registered associations, foundations, cooperatives, public corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, and freelancers with a residence or business address in the Fürth city area. However, the funding for private cargo bikes is currently exhausted. Interested applicants can apply for the subsidy online under "eService". Heidelberg offers several funding programs to support environmentally friendly mobility, including the e-taxi funding program that compensates taxi companies for the additional costs of operating electric vehicles. The funding program also promotes the transition to public transportation, cycling, and alternative drives and fuels, and supports the installation of private and public charging stations for electric vehicles. Additionally, individuals can receive bonuses for decommissioning a passenger car in connection with the purchase of a cargo bike or bicycle, as well as for the purchase of fuel cell vehicles or the installation of a private charging station.

The City of Günzburg will cover 20 percent of the net acquisition cost, but no more than 500 euros for electric cargo bikes and no more than 250 euros for muscle-powered cargo bikes. The subsidized cargo bike may not be permanently passed on or sold to others in the three years following the purchase. The guideline stipulates an eight-week period from the date of receipt of the decision to make the purchase.

The program aims to increase the use of bicycles for commercial and private transportation in the city.
