Electric bikes come in all shapes, sizes, and price points, especially when we're talking about electric mountain bikes. Built to stand up to the rigors of riding over difficult and uneven terrain, mountain bikes have to provide effective damping through their suspensions so the rider can find a natural balance over rough terrain.
Unfortunately, from a design point of view, this is much easier said than done. As such, electronically assisted mountain bikes usually carry hefty price tags to match their more complex engineering. Not to mention they're usually heavier and a bit bulkier than their urban commuter cousins, which can be off putting to smaller riders.
LaPierre created the answer to this in the form of the Overvolt HT 5.5, an entry-level model with a lightweight aluminum frame, as well as Overvolt models designed specifically for female riders. How does this entry-level e-mountain bike stack up to a crowded field of competitors, and should it earn a spot in your garage?
The LaPierre Overvolt HT 5.5 has plenty to love and some things to forget. It's comfortable and speedy but doesn't offer any kind of display, or removable battery, and the tires don't fully live up to the bike's potential.
That being said, it is offered at an attractive price point and has female-specific models to help fit all sizes of riders. If you're considering getting into e-mountain biking, but have been put off by some of the eye-popping price tags, the LaPierre Overvolt HT 5.5 could be a good place to start.
Designed for riders to discover electric mountain biking
God knows what LaPierre are thinking with the latest addition to their emtb fleet.
